December 23rd, 2009 Top area Fee-Based Investment Advisers
The Kansas City Business Journal
The Business Journal ranked Kornitzer Capital Managemen [owners and managers of the Buffalo Funds} among Kansas City's Top Fee-Based Investment Advisers, looking at locally headquartered firms ranked by assets under management.

December 15th, 2009 TheStreet's Fund Manager Five
TheStreet.com Gregg Greenberg
Mr. Greenberg wrote about the Buffalo Large Cap Fund, and quotes portfolio manager Elizabeth Jones saying "We are long term investors and we invest in companies that are beneficiaries of the 'Buffalo long-term trends' -- quantifiable trends driven by demographic, technology, industry and global developments -- and that conform to our strict fundamental valuation analysis. Given our long-term orientation, and the fact that we run a concentrated portfolio with low turnover, we believe over the intermediate to long term, this strategy will deliver superior performance and we welcome like-minded investors."

December 11th, 2009 Don't Ignore These Winners in 2010
MotleyFool.com Dan Caplinger
"If you don't have mid-cap exposure in your portfolio, then you're missing out on an important element of a diversified investing strategy." Motley Fool listed the Buffalo Mid Cap Fund's performance for various time periods as of 12/10/09.

December 4th, 2009 18 midcap funds on a run this year
Smart Money Rob Wherry
"The midcap sector has been one of the strongest performing of the mutual fund world this year. The average midcap fund is up 32% in 2009. We started with a universe of just over 1,100 funds and quickly trimmed that group by disqualifying funds that charge sales loads and high annual expense ratios. The funds also had to be up at least 20% in 2009 and above-average performers during the trailing three- and five-year time periods. Eighteen funds made the cut."

December 2nd, 2009 Top Funds Turning Away New Investors
Smart Money Magazine Staff

November 24th, 2009 Buffalo Fund Mines Cheap Micro-Cap Stocks
thestreet.com Gregg Greenberg
"Excerpt from the Q&A with John Bichelmeyer: Greenberg: What is your favorite sector? Bichelmeyer: As investors who take a long term approach with a focus on secular growth, we typically identify investment ideas on a company-by-company basis rather than on a sector basis. As a result of this bottom-up process, the fund's top two sectors are technology and consumer discretionary, which appear to have the most attractive risk-reward opportunities at this time. Greenberg: What sector or stock would you avoid? Bichelmeyer: Our goal is to seek out companies that have an attractive structural growth profile and the ability to generate excess cash flow, thus we tend to avoid companies in sectors that have very little potential for above-average, long-term revenue and earnings growth. Typically, this leads us to be underexposed to energy, materials and industrials."

November 4th, 2009 15 funds on a 30% run in 2009
Smart Money Rob Wherry
"There are more than 10,200 funds and share classes beating the S&P 500 this year. We knocked out the funds that charge loads and have high fees and minimums. That left us with a universe of more than 500 offerings. From that group, we highlighted 15 funds that are up at least 30% in 2009 -- double the return of the S&P 500 -- and are run by well-known managers or are popular with investors."

October 2009 Think Globally When Diversifying Investments
DentistryIQ Clay Brethour, CFA and Dave Carlsen, CFA
"But if your portfolio is relying solely on the U.S. economy for growth, you may be missing the most important diversification opportunity of all. Today's financial/investment market is clearly a global market, driven by a global economy. As the current downturn makes clear, different nations' economies react in different ways to global economic forces. A portfolio with international exposure may potentially provide a broad combination of diversification, safety and opportunity."

October 15th, 2009 TIP SHEET: Buffalo Mid Cap Rises On Long-Term Outlook
Dow Jones Newswires Melissa Korn
"The Buffalo Mid Cap Fund (BUFMX) likes trends. Not those flavors of the day that have left investors clamoring lately, like financials, but rather quantifiable patterns, such as demographic changes. Co-managers Kent Gasaway, Bob Male and Grant Sarris of Kornitzer Capital Management track 24 of those trends, assessing which mid-cap companies could most benefit from, say, the growing diversity of the population or the rise of the service-based economy. They see which of those organizations have clean balance sheets, opting for companies with little or no debt and strong free cash flow."

October 13th, 2009 Fund Focus: Buffalo Science and Technology
Associated Press Stan Choe
"We tend to believe technology companies are those that innovate, solve problems. We don't get stuck in the rut of thinking technology is just information technology. We favor a broader definition, which ultimately leads to a broader universe. With multiple different industries, it provides diversification benefits, which we believe leads to better returns and a more stable fund over time."

". . . at Buffalo Mid Cap (BUFMX), managers Kent Gasaway and Bob Male focus on companies exhibiting solid growth, but they also think about a firm's debt load and stock valuation. The team follows big-picture themes, such as trends in demographics and technological innovation, to unearth superb picks."

August 4th, 2009 Four Small-Cap Funds That Have Ridden 2009's Rough Roads Well
Morningstar William Samuel Rocco
"The [Buffalo Small Cap] managers continue to look for high returns and solid balance sheets, carefully consider valuations, and take a long-term view as they rely on demographic, technology, and other themes to help shape the portfolio. This strategy has long led them to the hardware and consumer-services sectors, which have flourished thus far in 2009, and their security selection has been quite good in those sectors as well as others of late."

July 31st, 2009 Buffalo USA Global Renamed Buffalo Growth
Buffalo Funds Press Release
"The Buffalo Growth name will allow us to more accurately depict our focus on U.S. companies that are aggressively pursuing global markets with their established American brands.," Kent Gasaway, Buffalo Funds president and portfolio manager, said. "The word 'global' in the title of the fund was confusing to some who thought the fund contained non- U.S.-based companies."

July 29th, 2009 Buffalo Fund Wins With a GARP Tack
Investor's Business Daily Paul Katzeff
"If you want flash, Buffalo Small Cap Growth is not your kind of fund. . . . " "The fund has racked up this record with a tack that avoids glitz, hot stocks and pricey plays." "GARP would probably be the best way to characterize our approach," said co-manager Bob Male, referring to his fund's growth-at-a-reasonable-price strategy. "We buy growth stocks with an eye toward valuation."

Here Kent Gasaway,Robert Male, and Grant Sarris try to identify a variety of secular growth themes that will lead to steadily rising revenues and earnings. This year, the fund's portfolio has been helped by consumer-oriented firms . . . "

Morningstar John Coumarianos
"Besides holding businesses with high returns on assets, this fund's veteran managers Kent Gasaway, Robert Male, and Grant Sarris pay attention to balance sheets, which has been a boon to the fund in both 2008 and 2009, when debt-laded firms suffered badly."

Bloomberg Charlie Stein
"Kent Gasaway, one of the $1.86 billion fund's three managers, said he favors debt-free companies that can withstand the recession. . . . "We didn't have as many blowups as other people," Gasaway said in a telephone interview from Shawnee Mission, Kansas. "We weren't worried our companies would go out of business." The managers seek companies with market values of $500 million to $2 billion that can grow faster than the economy in three to five years, said Gasaway's colleague, Robert Male."

Smart Money Rob Wherry
"One of the . . . small-cap growth options, the [Buffalo Small Cap] fund sticks with firms with high returns on capital, competitive advantages and rock-solid balance sheets. In recent months that has steered the management team toward restaurant stocks. The fund doesn't mind waiting for its picks to pay off, with turnover rarely exceeding 40 percent."

June 16, 2009 Analyst Research: Buffalo Mid Cap Fund
Morningstar John Coumarianos
"This fund [Buffalo Mid Cap] boasts a sound investment philosophy, veteran management, and a good long-term record. Managers Kent Gasaway and Robert Male look for stocks with the potential to grow earnings based on their analysis of demographic trends. The managers eventually dig into financial statements as well to make sure they're buying estimated future profits at a reasonable price,"

June 16, 2009 Analyst Research: Buffalo High Yield Fund
Morningstar John Coumarianos
"This fund [Buffalo High Yield Fund] is a mild-mannered junk-bond fund, but it can fill the high-yield slot in a portfolio well. This fund's management team is led by Buffalo veteran Kent Gasaway, and it sticks to the higher-quality spectrum of bonds issued by companies with considerable debt levels. It benefits from Gasaway and Buffalo's stock research, which seeks to understand the basis of companies' competitive advantages and positions regarding demographic trends.

June, 2009 Big Ideas Produce Big Winners
Kiplinger's Elizabeth Ody
"Trying to guess where the market's headed is a loser's game, says Bob Male, of Buffalo Small Cap (symbol BUFSX). So he and co-managers Kent Gasaway and Grant Sarris stay fully invested throughout bull and bear markets and continue to follow a big-picture strategy they've honed for more than a decade. The trio draw on long-term economic and social trends -- such as the aging of baby-boomers -- to uncover stocks worth owning for the next three to five years."

May 24th, 2009 One Way to Build Retirement Savings
Investment News Guest Column John Kornitzer
Thanks to 21st century technology, millions view depictions of more prosperous lifestyles, and enormous new markets are opening up that demand immediate satisfaction. Companies that can meet that demand with established brands are in a position to prosper.
Our approach is to follow a simple road map for investing in companies doing business in emerging economies at various stages of their economic development. In the early stages, developing countries are focused on providing for basic needs and building infrastructure.
With infrastructure in place, manufacturing and industrial development is attracted. As industry develops, jobs are created, the standard of living gradually improves, and middle- and upper-class consumers eventually emerge.
Investment opportunities range from companies' pouring the first slab of concrete for a highway to those pouring the first drink of Coca-Cola.

May 8th, 2009 22 Funds That Charge Rock-Bottom Fees
Smart Money Rob Wherry
"Even as the investing world gets sidetracked by "stress tests," dismal earnings and banking woes, it's still important to remember the most important element of fund-picking: low fees. There are plenty of things that impact fund performance: good (or bad) stock picking, a well-honed (or flawed) investing strategy and the larger economic picture. But fees also play a part -- and there is a powerful incentive to pay attention to them. Over the life of a retirement account, expenses can eat up tens of thousands of dollars."

May 1st, 2009 Thinking Small
Financial Planning Ilana Polyak
"When the economy contracts, smaller companies, which have greater operating leverage in their business, don't have the ability to maintain margins as well as larger companies," Sarris says. Thus, the small fry's earnings are hit and stock prices suffer, he adds. Yet in a recovery, small companies perform better. "The margin acceleration is much greater coming out of a recession for small-caps," Sarris says. Larger firms' margins aren't as variable. The team has made an art of following the movements of these little companies, which it defines as those with market caps under $2 billion. The fund couldn't sidestep the damage imposed by the overall economy, but Buffalo Small Cap's well-timed moves helped to stanch some damage others suffered."

"Money managers who have been able to largely escape the carnage said that the key to investing in either a bull or bear market is to stick with top-notch companies with healthy balance sheets. After all, the binge on credit at both the consumer and corporate level is a leading cause of this downturn. "It's been a challenging time. But our focus on quality has always been there -- companies that have very little debt, produce a lot of cash, have a competitive advantage and high profit margins," said Kent Gasaway, co-manager of the Buffalo Small Cap fund . . .
